Chris Coker
Owner / Head Coach

Chris earned a Bachelors degree at Texas A&M – Commerce while playing NCAA golf, and heading up the University’s NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Chris began using CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting in his fitness regimen in 2009 and became a Certified CrossFit Trainer in 2010. He opened CrossFit Wylie in early 2012. He has trained over 1000 athletes including collegiate and professional athletes, international level weightlifters, CrossFit Games athletes, and record holders. He specializes in weightlifting technique and movement patterns, as well as golf biomechanics and rotational power and control.

Steve La
General Manager / CrossFit Coach /  Nutrition Coach

After receiving his Bachelors in Psychology from UT Dallas, Steve’s aspirations to help others led him to pursue a path in Physical Therapy. During his studies and hours spent volunteering, he began personal training and fell in love with the process of helping individuals grow stronger, more resilient, and overcome challenges in which they thought were impossible. A year later he decided to pursue after his passions of coaching and personal training. He has accumulated over 2,000 hours of individual/group training sessions and is eager to continue to learn as much as he can to help others achieve their fitness and health goals. Steve has been a member of CrossFit Wylie since 2017 and loves the community and comradery that CrossFit Wylie has brought into his life. He’s excited to have the opportunity everyday to show others what their potential is!

Dr. Laura Coker, PT, DPT
Physical Therapist

Laura completed her undergrad work at the University of Texas while a member of the Track and Field team. She then went on to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.Laura is an experienced gymnast and track athlete, with coaching experience in each sport. Along with her background in physical therapy, she is an invaluable asset as a coach and trainer.

Travis Barbosa
CrossFit Coach

Travis started CrossFit on his own before joining CrossFit Wylie in January of 2013. He is a certified paramedic for the Medical Center of Plano and is currently attending RN school. Growing up, Travis played football and baseball.Travis takes great pride in training properly and is a perfectionist when it comes to technique. Now he is finding his true passion of leading others towards their fitness goals.

Alex Gutierrez
CrossFit Coach

Alex Gutierrez began Coaching CrossFit in 2012. When not at the gym he works as a flight paramedic for Children’s Hospital in Dallas. Alex found CrossFit after spending time wrestling and rock climbing and didn’t hesitate to get certified as a trainer in an effort to learn as much as he could. He joined the CrossFit Wylie coaching staff in 2015. He brings an excellent knowledge in weightlifting, gymnastics, anatomy, and more to the gym.

Jill Whitesell
Head Kids Coach

Jill was extremely active while growing up – she was a competitive gymnast for eight years and did high school diving and cheerleading. Jill was introduced to CrossFit in January 2012 while serving in Baghdad, Iraq and immediately found a new passion. She continued CrossFit on her own until she retired from the United States Air Force in August 2014 with 20 years of service. She, her husband Bryan, and their three girls moved to Wylie and she joined the CrossFit Wylie community in September 2014. In November, she received her Level 1 Certification in an effort to both enhance her knowledge of CrossFit but also to be able to coach and share her passion with others.Jill knew when she retired from the military that she wanted to work with children in some type of physical fitness capacity to help them develop healthy lifestyles and to associate fitness as being fun early in life. As such, she decided to obtain her CF Kids Certification and is the head CF Kids coach for our gym. She loves what she does and it shows!

Justin Weir
CrossFit Coach

Justin is originally from a small gulf coast town in Southeast Texas and moved to Dallas in 2009. He grew up participating in a variety of competitive athletics and has been exposed to many different strength and conditioning methodologies over the years, dating back to the 6th grade.He discovered CrossFit in early 2013, looking for something new to break up the monotony of doing the same routines at a globo gym. In May of 2014, he earned his Level 1 Certification and began coaching at East Dallas CrossFit where he originally fell in love with the friendly but competitive atmosphere and CrossFit training.In January 2016, he moved to Wylie with his fiance, Beth and they both started to attend CrossFit Wylie. Six months later, Justin made the transition to joining the coaching staff at his new home, where he enjoys training, coaching, and helping the community in any way possible.

Tammy Barber
CrossFit Coach

Tammy is a native Texan, living in this area for over 35 years.  Mother of 6, grandmother of 2. In her youth she spent time an EMT-B with AMR, serving Balch Springs FD and Dallas County. Currently employed for over 15 years at Texas Health Allen, and is currently one of the head Administrators of the emergency department. Tammy followed her Husband Ron into the world of CrossFit 2013. Her passion is inspiring others and assisting them in making the same life-changing improvements that she has made, and takes pride in making her classes as fun as possible.
