Our athlete spotlights introduce CrossFit Wylie athletes to the community, celebrating their accomplishments and contributions to the community. If you know someone we should spotlight email Coach Chris! Thank you Coach Alex for heading this up!

This month’s spotlight is on John Perdomo!

John has been with CrossFit Wylie since November of 2013. He frequents the evening classes and has been a great supporter over the years through supporting members and staff in and out of the gym. And, he’s a cancer survivor. Here’s our sit down with John!

Q: How long have you been at CrossFit Wylie?
John: Almost 5 years

Q: What is your occupation?
John: I am a commercial account manager with AT&T.

Q: What do you love most about CrossFit Wylie?
John: I love the variety of the workouts and the community aspect. CrossFit Wylie is like my extended family. We all work together and encourage and support each other both inside and outside of the gym.

Q: Favorite CrossFit movement or lift?
John: I actually have two. I would say butterfly pullups and thrusters.

Q: Least favorite CrossFit movement or lift?
John: Definitely the Overhead squat, but I am getting better at it.

Q: What is the thing that has surprised you the most since you started CrossFit?
John: While I’ve always been an active person, I feel stronger and I am in better shape at 42 years old then I’ve been in my life. This is the outcome of consistent training at CrossFit Wylie for the past 4 ½ years.

Q: What advice do you have for beginners? What do you wish you would have known when you started?
John: Don’t compare yourself to others in the gym or feel pressured to do too much too fast. Be happy wherever you’re at and give yourself time. Learn proper form, even if it’s not RX weight in order to avoid injury.

Q: Can you tell me an interesting fact about yourself?
John: I was born in Bogota, Columbia and I moved to the United States when I was three years old. I am also a cancer survivor, and I have been cancer free for almost thirteen years.
